NOTES ON CHILD ESTRANGEMENT AND PARENTAL ALIENATION

by Dr. Mark Roseman, Founder and CEO

When the bonds of affection between a child and a parent is inexplicably torn and made highly volatile, there is need for immediate examination and focus on the causes.

If parents are separated and or divorced, then research shows there is great reason for children to become victimized as pawns in the process of building the wall between both parents, excluding a parent from the child’s life, and for brainwashing the child to dampen and vacate any obvious signs of former (and current affection) for the absent, or non-custodial parent.

When this happens, the necessity for psychological or forensic evaluation of the at home, or custodial parent should be requested by the Court and or the GAL (Guardian Ad Litem).  Additionally, it is critical that the child be evaluated by an especially trained psychotherapist who does not attend to the statements necessarily of the child. Instead, this therapist must explore the reasons for the child’s behaviors.

If we ask “Why” when children – of any age – show complete disregard, hatred and enmity for the absent parent, then these questions of prior relationship quality must be examined as well as what interceded in this bedeviled relationship now demonstrated.

If you feel that your children have been brainwashed against you and believe the other parent particularly has carried out these overt efforts to do so no matter how unconscious they may seem, then you are a targeted parent for it is you who is decided to no longer be wanted in the family structure.

There are many things of course that parents face when confronted with Alienation.  Here are a few:

  1. Individual counseling
  2. Child Custody Coaching
  3. Family Law and Child Custody Consulting
  4. Family therapy
  5. Clinical evaluations
  6. Court ordered therapeutic supervised visitation
  7. Parenting plans and Family Mediation
  8. Targeted Parent Support Group
  9. Referrals

The Toby Center provides nearly all these services.

Mark David Roseman & Associates provides the Child Custody Coaching, Consulting, and Targeted Parent Support Groups.

Additionally, you may find Contemporary Family Magazine to be a valuable source of parental alienation interventions, treatment, field practice and legislation on a global level.
